Moose & Big Game Hunts

Moose
The Moose has become very popular in Vermont since the decline of the fur industry and the increased logging in the area. With fewer beaver being harvested for their furs there are more beaver ponds scattered throughout the woods. These ponds produce aquatic vegetation which the moose thrive on. The clear cuts produce both conifer and deciduous whips loaded with new buds which become prime winter feed. The moose prefers these open areas because they can get around better carrying their massive racks in the dense woods. In order to hunt the moose in Vermont you need to apply for a moose permit in June or July by picking up an application in any sport store or by contacting Vt Fish and Game @ 1-802-241-3700. Non resident cost was $25.00 resident was $10.00 in 2002. You are allowed 1 primary shooter, 1 secondary shooter and a guide. This year our team harvested a cow weighing in at 726 lbs., dressed. Black Bear
The black bear population in Vermont is healthy and strong. Since the lining and fencing of the landfills there are healthy and wild bear out there. The state will allow you to hunt bear with dogs but will not allow you to bait the bear. I do not hunt bear with dogs and believe that this practice is unethical. There are many of us that believe this, and that it is only a matter of time that the practice will be stopped. I know the areas that bear frequent and feed and will be happy to guide your bear hunt.
The White Tail
The White tailed deer is prolific in Vermont and the most pursued animal in the forest.
The rifle season is 2 weeks and 3 weekends long starting the 2nd Saturday in November. Bow season starts in early October and usually lasts 3 weeks. Muzzle loader season usually starts one week into December for one week. The Northern woods can produce some monster bucks but they are hard to find. Lots of scouting is needed to be successful and you’ll cover many miles. Towards the farming areas and 10 minutes south of here there is a larger herd due to increased feed. Scent free clothing hung outside to air , water proof and supportive footwear and broken up blaze orange are a must.
The price for both Bear and Deer hunts is $150.00 per day for two and $50.00 additional each person over two.
