Welcome to the Fun Things to do and Places to go page
We, Lorraine & George Willy,
Your hosts at the Village Inn of East Burke
Welcome you to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont
Just a few years ago, the population finally exceeded the number of cows,(undoubtably due to the decrease in dairy farms rather than population growth). From Lyndonville you are about 1/2 hour from the New Hampshire and the Canadian border. Interstate routes I-91 & I-93 intersect in St. Johnsbury with Montreal, Canada, 2-1/2 hours north, and Boston, about 3-1/2 hours southeast on I-93. If you take a drive on these interstates, particularly I-91 you may well enjoy the unique experience of not seeing a vehicle in front, or, in your rearview mirror. Enjoy it, because soon you will have to return to reality and modern living. East Burke is the home of Burke Mountain, Kingdom Trails, and Burke Mountain Academy, and of course, The Village Inn. Your hosts, George & Lorraine, hope you will be able to take the time, and enjoy the slower pace of Vermont and appreciate its beauty and take advantageof the sights and activities the Northeast Kingdom has to offer.

Burke Hollow Meeting House
The meeting house is available for meetings, weddings etc. This is a non-denominational meeting house that is beautiful and located in Burke Hollow. There is no heat in the building, so winter events could be chilly. It seats 200 - 250 people. There is a center aisle, although the sanctuary is configured so that you enter behind the pulpit, and must walk around the pulpit to get to the center aisle. There are side doors, so most bridal parties enter through these, rather than use the center isle. The contact for making arrangements to use or to see the building is Bernie Syice, 802-467-3409.

There is really great "Stuff" everywhere, hanging, sitting in the corners, on shelves, outside. They are really busy producing for all over the country. The Gardens at the Inn
We plant and care for these gardens for income and for the enjoyment of staying connected with the earth. We allow our guests to walk the gardens and enjoy them. Buy a bottle of wine and sit in the gazebo and watch the humming birds. If you are allergic to bee stings, you should be aware that our bees are pollinating. If you are going to cook in and want fresh greens for a salad, or stir fry's, or maybe some new potatoes, or some really fresh sweet corn, consult with George first. We ask that you pick just what you will be eating at that meal. Most all the canned goods you see in the office, which are for sale, are harvested from our garden.
The Apiary
We keep 100 hives of bees and grow each year. These bees produce the finest wild flower honey that we know of. We usually sell out quickly. This honey is packed raw and has neverbeen heated. It usually crystallizes quickly which is actually better for spreading on toast. This honey is used for eating and enjoying in its natural state, For sweetening our canned goods, for medicinal purposes ( wound dressings ) and for preparing auto immune systems for those that suffer from hay fever. We sell honey, honey comb, bees wax, candles, and pollen. For more information please check out our apiary link or talk to George.
Moose watching
If your lucky enough you may see a moose off to the side of the road. Be careful. The reason the moose are there is because of the salt used on the roads during the winter. If you see a moose sign on the road, slow down. The signs are popular areas frequented by moose. If youhit a moose you knock out the legs from underneath the animal and the 1500 lb animal endsup in your lap. People die from hitting moose. On the lighter side if you want to take picturesof moose and actually see them in the wild, you can drive the roads in this area and you might be lucky. If you really want to see moose then you can hire George and head up into the woods. It is a day event and there are requirements. See the guiding link.
